Winter Care December / July Welcome RES keepers! For most of us, winter is here. Whether you keep your turtle(s) indoors or outdoors, you need to pay extra attention to them. I DO NOT recommend any type of hibernation (Brumation) for captive RES. It would be advisable to provide an indoor environment with adequate water heating in addition to the normal basking, water filtration and UV requirements. Those who already keep their aquatic turtles indoors may need to re-check temperatures and adjust your water heater thermostats. Some RES may exhibit behavioral and appetite changes due to the winter season. Do not let water temperatures become too cold. This site and forum have grown quite a lot this year, but we always welcome suggestions to help us improve and provide a more positive experience. Feel free to email me. Best Regards, Steve |
