Feeding and Nutrition :: rosi red is becoming tank pal

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I put 6 rosi reds in the tank last week for my two res. They ate 5 of them right away, and the last one is still going strong....! I don't know if it's too big, or are they just tired of fish? Anyway, I'm worried that this fish is starving...I don't have any fish food! I don't really want to raise fish, will they eventually eat it? It might be growing...maybe it's eating turtle food that has broken down in the tank? What should I do?

Those rosies will eat anything. If you're feeding your turtle in the tank, yes they'll get any crumbs that your turtles miss. They'll eat the turtle's poop too. I've got four big rosies in my tank that are leftovers from last summer (apparently Spot's not that crazy about minnows) and they help keep the tank clean.

I wouldn't worry about that rosie. Chances are you'll wake up some morning and he'll be gone.

The record for me is a year and still going. Now if only if she would start eating the guppies..they are starting to take over the tank.
She is mine and I shall call her Michelangelo!

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had feeders for over a year and I never fed them. My pleco is alive for 2 years and I've only fed him like 4 algae wafers. (my goodness he's just as dirty as the turtles)

I've noticed that my turtle tends to eat all but one minnow, when I put in more than one of them. It's like he's saving it for later, or maybe waiting for them to repopulate. I had one lonely minnow left in my tank for maybe a month now, but I woke up this morning, and he was gone. Guess he got a little hungry.

About feeding, I have a little bit of fish food that came with the aquarium that I bought, and I put some in every couple of days for the rosey red minnows, but they seem just fine without it.
