General Care Discussion :: Care has become too much

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Jul 18, 2026 4:29 pm   Care has become too much

Last year I had open heart surgery to correct a congenital heart defect, and over the past year my three turtles' care has been immensely difficult. Couple that with my mom getting up there in age (nearly 70), the manual labor is proving to be too hard for her. We've reached a point where we're too tired and don't have the energy, or the financial means, to turn their setups into something that would allow us to not have to put so much energy in.

When we first got the turtles it wasn't like this, and for the past 18 years, it really hasn't been as hard as it is now. The oldest is having issues with her shell and she's definitely slowing down a bit, though her personality remains unchanged otherwise.

Is there anyone in the New England area or in Connecticut, who would be willing to take any, or all of our turtles? I'm strictly looking to rehome them to somebody responsible. You can have everything they have, such as tanks, basking docks, lights, filters, water heaters.
