I just noticed a couple spots in my sons red eared sliders shell. They almost look like pits or flaking of the shell. I first did a google search and it automatically brought up shell rot. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what this might be and how to fix the problem. He's acting normal and eating normal as well. His shell isn't spongey. Just flakey in those spots.
Thanks a ton! We've had him about a year and a half. He lives in a 70 gallon tank with a dry dock.

It's just some flakey shedding. Don't try to pick or peel it. Not idea, but shedding is good regardless. Welcome to the forum!

Does he have a heat lamp and UVB bulb above his dry dock?

Thanks everyone! I just picked him up a heat lamp today when I started reading up on his shell flaking.

Your turtle will be so happy to have a heat lamp! But you really need to get your turt a UVB light too (if you don't already have one) . They aren't very expensive, but they are very important to your turt's health! His shell looks good other than that, as far as I can tell. It's hard to tell from your pic, how big is he? Based on your finger to shell ratio... I'm totally jealous! I can't wait to expand my turtle's tank.
