Feeding and Nutrition :: Not very interested in Live food?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

As I'm sure some of you know, I tried feeding Brixie some live prey for the first time. I plopped two minnows in her tank, and they both hid for a while. Eventually one came out. At that time I noticed one of the rosy reds I had was already half dead so I popped that one in the tank. It kinda flopped a bit, but mostly just floated. Brixie ate that one, but as for the other one that freely swims around, she just swims right by it with almost no interest. I'll see if it disappears anytime soon, but in the meantime, this can be good, right? The minnows will eat the leftover turtle food, won't they? Will they eat leftover carrots?

I have 3 baby res that had no interest in the rosey reds either but they love the dead shrimp in a can! One day their instinct will kick in. In the meantime they will eat the leftovers so nothing to worry about!

Yeah they tend to not chase stuff they think they cant get. Iv had some turtles chase after anything and some just not interested at all.

She still hasn't eaten any. She has eaten the four rosy reds that died, but seems a bit too lazy to bother with the quick swimmers :/

I wouldn't worry if she doesn't go after the fish. (I don't even feed live fish to my turts.)

i have 1 rosy red left in my tank, its been there for over 4 months. all the others were eaten... this one is mean though, (s)he attacks my turtles if they get too close... so they tend to not get too close. i wouldnt be worried about them not eating them, eventually the minnow will get old and then eaten.

yeah, it like latches onto the turtles face and flails around really fast. it doesnt hurt them, it just scares them, so now they leave him alone. he also eats with the turtles, and gets his fair share. all the other minnows died because this one was eating all there food and eventually they got tired and became turtle food. for about a month i had one other minnow left, who lived in the filter. he only came out to eat and he was chased around the tank the whole time.
