Feeding and Nutrition :: will a res eat a plecostomus?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

My Pickle ate 2 plecos wen he was still small. It's been a long time now, but my recollection is that they were about as long as his shell, but he still got them. I didn't see it, so I couldn't say for sure the plecos didn't die of natural causes and Pickle ate them after, but I know from experience Pickle can be quite a hunter, and I've seen him take down lots of minnows and a few mollies. My opinion is that it might not be a good idea to keep plecos in with the turtles at all. My concern is that when the pleco is killed or dies of natural cause and the turtle eats it, it may choke or somehow injure itself on the bony plates. Personally I have never found plecos to be very useful in cleaning the tank, plus they add a lot of wastes to the water. I don't think it's worth it.

My goal today is to clean my Chomper's tank and then go out to buy him a friend! I hope he wont eat the pleco, but i will use the suggestions i have gotten from you guys by leaving the turtle out for about an hour. Chomper can just chill in the bath tub ha-ha.... Zeke has had a Pleco in with him for several years, the Pleco was bigger to begin with (at least 4"). I love it keeps the tank nice & clean and cleans Zeke's shell sometimes too lol, the Pleco will actually ride on Zekes shell every now and then.

I have 2 six year old turtles who don't touch any fish, not clown loach tiger barb or pleco, this has gone on for a few years. Nothing.

Even if the fish go to his face and hes very very hungry he wouldnt touch them, and yet he attacks anything else thats moving in the tank

So some turtles get used to it and possibly never touch the fish.

tHE only time my turtle tried to bite fsh was when I first put the fish in, he tried to chase them for days, but tiger barbs were wayyy to fast for him and he gave up, never chased one again

Mine eat their fins. I wouldn't mix with plecos. I have a convict cichild with the turtles and it has been fine for over a year. There is a piece of driftwood for the fish to hide in if the turtles chase it. I'm debating getting a female to let them breed.
