Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hey everyone,

I've had my turtle "Kame" for 2 years now. Usually she's a pig but for the past month she has stopped eating completly (accept for biting the turtle dock).

All 2 years that I've had her shes only eaten pellets..lots of pellets. I've tried to get her to eat veggies and fruits and stuff but she's disinterested. About a month ago I fed her and she threw up afterwards. Her water was pretty dirty anyway so I changed it and she hasn't thrown up since. But since then shes eaten less and now not at all. I haven't seen anything else out of the ordinary. Basking, begging for attention, was molting her shell, still shedding skin, etc. Just hasn't been eating. We do let her hiberate during the winter, but her room and water are very warm, is still very active, and August seems way too soon for hiberation.

So has anyone else experienced this problem before? And what can I do to make sure my turtle starts eating again?

Thanks!

Quick update: Last night I bought a larger floating dock (cause she was wayyy to big for her old one) and some of the reptomin 3-1 food. Kame ate a few pieces but turned up nose up at the rest...but i guess its a start.

Has she actually consumed parts of the dock? If so, I would probably change it to a different type.

What's the water temperature like? What process do you go through for her hibernation?

I don't believe she's consumed any of the dock to my knowledge since the pieces usually float around in the tank and clog up the filter x.x. I believe i read somewhere that they do that either to trim their beak or because they think its a real rock and is trying to get more calcium.

As far as hibernation I just let it happen as naturally as I can. I do not have a heater for her but her tank is in a room that has lots of natural sunlight so it does get very warm in the summer and cold in the winter. It is the end of August so she may be getting ready to hibernate, however she is still very active during the day and is constantly begging against the glass when she's not basking. When she is in her hibernation mode she usually sleeps all day.

I have had a little more success with the krill today too.

It could be she's just being picky at the moment.

I remember a while back my RES for some reason didn't eat his pellets for 2 days but he went right back eating them the next day. Try feeding him something different.
