Box Turtle and Tortoise Discussion :: Big enough Enclosure??

I was planning on getting an eastern box turtle once I gathered up enough money. Now the little guy would have to live inside for about 8 months due to the winters where I live and I was just wondering whether an enclosure 6.8 feet long by 4.11 feet wide, or about 20 square feet would be an appropiate size for a Boxie.

The minimum requirement for one adult boxie is 4ft x 4ft but bigger is always better if you have the room

Here's the problem i face: the bigger the pen, the more it consumes my room , so i'm trying to find the best way possible to arrange my room so that i still have a large pen but lots of space left in my room.

I have seen 2 story enclosures for tortoises. Could be an idea. They save alot of room.

That is plenty big for one boxie.

Where are the windows/doors/closets/vents/outlets/light switches?

The red line to the right of the possible Pen is a window. The lime green bars are outlets. The vent is blocked and sealed off and the window is never open and has blinds on it. I don't have a closet in my room cause it wasn't ment to be a room. The only light switch is outside the room but i do have lights for the RES.

sounds good to me. that should be plenty of space. keep in mind that boxie enclosures require natural substrate, and can sometimes be subject to gnats. not a big concern of mine, but just thought you should be aware.

i love the 2 story enclosure idea.....now you guys have me thinking again....back to the drawing board!

With how big your going why not make a Bunkbed?

save you tones of space make a nice large enclosure using your matress size as a guide.. something that would work nice is maybe a solid wood water bed frame they usually sit on the ground as it is, easy to find and alot of times cheep now that they arnt popular.. if not free

Working off of that would be easy and would make the finnished product awsome... good with power tools? lol
dont forget to find a way to spring load your bed as a lid though, need easy acess...

You can try putting your bed on a loft (or bunk bed without the bottom) and then having the boxie enclosure under that. That would also prevent drafts from the vent.
