Most RES pretty much eat anything, even if it's dead..so why go through the trouble, and risk of using live feeders? If your turtle doesnt eat dead prey, then using live ones is okay as long as you breed them or get them from a reputable source. But mine eat them dead...and I bet a lot of others would too.
Live prey should be for animals that are picky eaters or absolutely require it. Sure a fish maybe just a fish, but is it fair to end it's life in such a horrific way just to satisfy your own need? You know..you can even buy already dead, freeze dried crickets and worms that are even gutloaded, for a couple of bucks at any pet store..most turtles will take right to it too. But if you wish to use feeder fish then that is okay, but there are better prey items out there anyway.
