Feeding and Nutrition :: RES is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I know there is already a question about when you can feed your RES fish- but I feel like he's so small still! But I know as young as he is, and from what I've read, they're more carnivorous at this age and I want to satisfy that side of him! Mealworms die so fast so they only wiggle around for a few seconds plus I shouldn't be feeding him too many of those (but I can tell he loves them when I have given them to him), and I wanted to give him something to chase around and enjoy during this stage. He's about 2 inches (and growing...fast!!!) I was looking at the rosie reds in the store and I just feel like he would choke on those! Please let me know of anything that I can give him (whether it's fish or something else) that will satisfy him!

Also- on a second note- I feed him throughout the day what would equal about the size of his head hollowed- but is that bad? I'll feed him in the morning- then once in the afternoon- then once in the evening! He won't even touch the old food that has soaked up water and if he does he spits it right back out so I just scoop the old stuff out when I put new in! Let me know if what I'm doing is wrong!

Feeder guppies would be a good choice if you want something for him to chase. And you should feed a total of what would fit into his head once a day. I'm not too clear whether you're feeding him that much every time or breaking it up through out the day. I always fed my turtles first thing in the morning and gave them greens for the rest of the day.

I'm feeding him that amount throughout the day because I've tried to feed him the full amount all at once but he eats little by little and won't touch his food once it has soaked up water- and if he does touch it he spits it right back out... maybe he's spoiled? I'm going to the store today to buy him some romaine lettuce and carrots to try! but is it a problem that i'm feeding him the equivalent to the size of his head throughout the day instead of all at once?

He could just be picky. Unless you want to stand there for a while and put a few sticks/pellets in at a time til its all gone first thing. Another veggie thats good to try them on is radicchio, my mom gave it to her turtles and they loved it.

It is a good idea if you feed your turtle a head sized diet every day.You should also swith of every once in awile what you feed him, remember this a good variety in food can lead to a strong healthy turtle.
