O-Rings to make it quieter? I'm not sure how that would work without impeding anything. Maybe put the filter over a towel or a sheet a styrofoam.

That's not a bad idea. The o-rings go inside the impeller cover because as I noticed when I took it apart - despite the cover clicking into place it is not tight. The filter works great as far as the water goes - the water looks like glass and I'm very impressed. Just a lot more noisy (which the noise sounds like the motor housing vibrating) than it's supposed to be. I sent a lady at Fluval pictures and she said she'd help as best she can. :)

You might just need to fiddle with it to make sure it's seated properly. When it's not, thats where you hear a lot more noise, have issues with air, and have potential leaks.

They're sending me a new impeller cover. The lady said it should be tight when you click it in and mine is not. Also, it must not be tight enough because when I disconnect the AquaStop Valve, water shoots out and fills up the lid where the valves go. That shouldn't happen like that.

I don't have air in there because the lady said to shake the filter a little and see if something escapes. Nothing did. Since the impeller cover is supposed to help keep the impeller in place, it must not be doing that.

That's funny... when I had the 304, I had to buy a replacement case for it. I think the handles broke or something.

If I recall, a little amount of water will push out when you disconnect the AquaStop. And try rocking it back and forth instead of shaking it.

I'll keep that in mind about the handles. Part of the reason I think it's the impeller cover is that the filter vibrates like nobody's business. The only moving part is basically the impeller so if the cover isn't holding it where it belongs then it's just running willy nilly.

I'll rock it back and forth just to be on the safe side. ;) Thanks Steve.

Does the case have any rubber feet?

There are little feet on it. They're on the corners.
