General Care Discussion :: Fungal Infection on Shell???

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

This is my turtle Donnie after her shell was scrubbed and dried. There was a bit of algae and hard water dust that I scrubbed off, and these white spots were under it. My first thought is that her shell has a fungal infection. The spots are not soft to the touch, but they are just gross to look at. I'm a fairly new turtle owner so some mistakes were definitely made :/ I went away for a few months and let my parents take care of her and they kept the tank really dirty. I am also ordering a much stronger filter for my tank to keep the water cleaner. My main question is...how do I treat this infection (if that's what it is) and keep it from spreading?

Picture is a bit small, but yes it's mostly fungus I see. See: viewtopic.php?t=10839

First review her habitat, basking routine. Then treatment, hopefully with some Silver Sulfadiazine.
