i didnt know he like dred lettuce so much.... it was soo funny when he first nibbled a peice off... then started engorging himself... i had to take it away from him!

Hi! How do you get Paco to eat lettece. My Tucker usually takes a bit or two and spits it out. Should I leave a piece in the water anyway and hopefully he'll eat more?

Just leave some in the water. Eventually he should start nibbling at it and eating it. You could also marinate it in the water from canned tuna, for example, to get a fishy scent on it.

I've never seen my turt spill out anything... does anyone have a suggestion on how I can get karlyn to eat fruit? She goes and "sniffs" it, EVERY kind of fruit and refuses to eat it!

Hello again. I must say there is some improvement with Tucker. I am not sure if I offer a big piece of Romaine lettuce. I usually leave a piece in the morning. and when I come home, I often find it ragged end and lots of small chunks floating. I can't really tell how much Tucker eats. May be he is too small and eats a little. I also tried yam and sweet potato. He seems interested in them but not much. How long do you cook yam and sweet potato? Untill it gets soft? What about the skin? Thanks a bunch!

I boil a sweet potato/yam until it is soft (about 45 min for a big potato). Or you can bake it, like a regular potato. I just poke my fork in it to see if it is done & the fork goes in easily, all the way thru. I just hollow it out, just like as if I was eating it. I don't feed the skin to Sheba (it's a bit tough for her to eat), but it is edible.

I just use a spoon to feed Sheba, but with a little turtle, you can just hand-feed bits & pieces without a spoon. I only use a spoon so I don't lose a finger, LOL. Sheba is a big girl & can pinch really hard. You don't have to worry about that so much with the little ones (4" or less).

Keep in mind that you can freeze bits of the potato too for short periods in small containers, because the turtle isn't going to be able to eat that whole thing before it starts to rot! So when I boil a sweet potato for Sheba, it goes a longer way.

I tried to feed Mary Kate and ashley some lettuce last night, well, i decided putting some shrimp on the top was the best way to maybe get a two for one bite. Well ashley bit the leaf then turned it over, got the shrimp off and ate the shrip, leaving the lettuce.

I think Spot would jump through a hoop for shrimp. He only eats lettuce as a last resort. His strong preference is for basil - anything else from the vegetable kingdom is "health food".

I tried to soak a piece of lettuce in tuna juice, tucker literally ripped the whole thing apart and spitted out every bite. I have to try basil. Well I guess he take after me, I am not much of lettuce fan myself;)

I have convinced my parents to buy the Cesar salad packs (that's the kind with romaine right?) and let me know prior to opening it. I can pick out a few nice sized greens, and then have smaller ones that wernt taken from the bag.

I also cook for my Fire Dept, so now i'll pick up an Extra bag of lettuce and have that. But for now both my turts are reluctant. No one here really eats tuna so soaking it in that can be hard.
