Batcsh, do a search on cuttlebone. This topic has been discussed quite a few times. There are a number of threads on it if you look.
Can't say I agree with the comment about losing interest if it's offered all the time--if there's a lot of it around all the time OK, but not a piece or two. I keep several pieces of cuttlebone in the tank all the time, and the turtles eat it when they feel like it. For some, I've replacing a piece or two every day, for others, not for several days. It depends on the turtle.
