General Care Discussion :: Lethargic Turtle

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Yesterday Mordin (6 year old YBS) was doing just fine. She ate well and I gave her fruit as a snack.

However, all day today she's been refusing any food and sleeping at the bottom of the tank.

She has laid eggs this year, several in fact. She usually lays somewhere in the range of twenty eggs per year, around four at a time. I think this is generally around the time of year that she expels her last eggs, although usually if she's eggy she is more active than this.

I want to know if there's anything I should be looking out for.

It happens sometimes. Just make sure she is alert, like she responds to interactions even though she's moody.

Yeah, she is responsive.

Today she's still refusing food, but she's awake and she's basking.

Have you tried the usual treats?

Later in the day after my last post, she just sort of woke up and started rooting around for food. She's been fine since. This just happens from time to time, but I always worry.

Yeah, pretty normal for us RES keepers to worry a lot.
