Your turtle's are not baby's anymore will not need all that protein as when growing very fast. Being juvenile's growth rate will slow down some so diet needs to be adjusted. By the time they are 4" should be on 50-70% veggies and protein every other day.

Lettuce and or veggies should be given every day , a good varied well mix.

Here's good read : http://www.redearslider.com/plants.html

Now on the "protein side" your turtle's are getting close to the size you would feed every other day. I say by 4" for sure every other day.

A good measure for how much protein is the 2/3's rule.

Lettuce does not make turtles fat, pellets do! Make sure you read the nutrition pages litefoot linked to! Then you can check in again :)

Also, the number of pellets only matters in relation to how big the pellets are. We might not know how big the pellets are for the particular brand of pellets you are feeding. You need to compare with head size. For example, I feed 12 pellets every other day to my 4 inch turtle, but they are fairly small pellets. Someone else might feed 2 or 5 if they are using bigger pellets.
