Dear All,

I have noticed a Red-ish area on their plastron. I'm so worried about what that might mean. Please check attached photos.

Details:
========
It's been around 4 months Ive been taking care of these 2 adorable YBS (I believe they have some RDS in them).
Based on when i got them, they should be around 5 months old now.

I have provided them with a UVB5.0 light about 20cms away to the closest basking area.
Current Lamp

Also, another regular household Incandescent light bulb for heating.
I will be adding one of the two lamps below to replace the current regular lamp. Please advise.

What's the basking area like? Any substrate in the tank?

Hi Steve,

thanks for the help.

Please see the attached photos of their Basking area and the substrate in the aquarium which are relatively large river stones. and i have a few artificial plastic trees here and there.

1 more thing please:
What do you think of their form? does their shell look ok? Is there pyramiding?
Why is Tutrle 1's scute looks pilled? is that ok?

Thanks a lot

The turtle's shell does look a bit roundish, these may be symptoms from overfeeding. What do you mean by 'pilled'?

I'd think the shell shape and plastron color might be related to overfeeding. The basking area looks OK as long it's easy for him to access. As for that white scute, its early to tell but it could be fungus. Hard water deposits might show up in several spots.

Hard water deposits are minerals (usually calcium) that collect and build up on surfaces. You might notice it a lot in sinks, bathtubs, and faucets.

Thanks a lot steve... i appreciate ur sopport.

So bottom line:
1. I will reduce their diet
2. Maybe replace their basking with a smoother one

How long should i wait to see results.
And what about that fungus possibility?

Just a suggestion on basking area : rather than a smoother surface which will not allow plastron to dry off completely which will open the door for other problems. Use a softer material like real cork , it's bumpy and softer allowing air under plastron to dry completely. If you can't find a large enough piece you can always place thinner pieces together and use a safe silicon to attach to the dock you have now to modify it.

re: fungus
Just give us an update on in a couple of weeks. Fungus likes to spread, so you should know by then.

Did you already say what youre feeding them? And do you have a thermometer for the basking area?

I think the most important thing about the basking area is that they're actually using it.

Hey Kingbird,

I am feeding them regular turtle pellets and once a week one or 2 caramus.

Basking area is about 30 to 32 degrees centigrade and water temperature is 25 to 27 degrees.

But there was about a few days where i had to replace the water heater and it was averaging about 20 degrees :(
