Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hello. I'm getting a new tank for my turtle and was wondering if the Fluval FX6 is overkill on a 120 gal tank or will it be fine? It says it can do 400 gallons and right now it's cheaper than the FX4 at my Petsmart. Thanks :msgreen:

I used one of mine on a 40 gallon breeder tank. It was just fine. I also use 2 on my 300 gallon tank. It's a great filter.

Those gallon ratings are for tanks filled with fish. Turtles produce lots more waste than fish. I'd say something like an FX6 is what you need to have for a 120 gallon tank. I ran one on a 55 gallon until I upgraded the tank to a 150.

Thanks. It's a good deal so I'll definitely have to buy it before the sale is over. I can't wait to see how my turtle will react to so much room. She likes getting under the filter so maybe I can get her a cave to hide in sometimes since the tank will have plenty of room. :)

Where is the sale? There was a pretty good Black Friday deal that a few of us scored on. Plus, you get the new model of the FX6, visit the Fulval site for a free gravel vacuum attachment (plus s/h).

I got the tank for $425 because of the 10% off. The FX6 was $229 with the 10% at check out. Helped pay for all the taxes which was nice. I hope my turtle likes it because she's never had so much room before. :o

Thinking about upgrading my tank to something of this similar size for my RES. Where could I get the best deals on tanks of this size besides major companies like Petco/PetSmart?

You might want to see if local stores might match the pricing, but it would be pretty difficult on something larger than 55 gallons. Best best is to find a used tank. Large glass tanks hold their value pretty well, and as long as there are no cracks, easy to clean up and prepare for turtle use..

PETCO will do, i think quarterly, sales on fish tanks that are a dollar a gallon. that's the time to buy..
