Feeding and Nutrition :: Hatching RES not eating baby fish

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi, I got my hatchling RES a week back. It has a shell length of 2 inches. I give it 1-2 pellets per day as well as a few vegetables like tomato or lettuce occasionally. It eats these. I got 4 baby fighter fish( that was the smallest available at the shop) for it. But it doesn't eat them. So I put them in the 20 gallon tank along with the RES. I saw it chase after them sometimes but they swim away. So I took one out and gave it to the RES separately in a shallow bowl. It just ignores the fish.
I also got some earthworms for it to eat but it was not interested in that too.
Plz help. Any suggestions are welcome.
This is my first time with an RES

Try holding the fish by the tail and let it wiggle in front of your turtle. HOWEVER, I don't know if fighter fish is good for your turtle.

Thank you so much Steve for replying. I have tried holding out some vegetables and even the earthworm. But it doesn't try to bite it. :(
It also doesn't eat anything when put in a different feeding bowl. However it eats when I put the food in the aquarium. So have been doing that for a week now. But that leads to the water getting dirty really fast. Any suggestions ?
Thanks once again ! Greatly appreciate your help. :D

Start with treats in the feeding container, until he associates that with food. You could also just skip it, hatchling RES need some more time to adjust. You will need a larger tank and better filter soon.

Hi Steve.. should I kill one fish and put it in the tank for him to eat ? Do u think that's advisable ?
Because I see him following the fish and trying to eat it.
Thanks !

Hi Steve. Just an update on Nanji ( my RES ), he ate two of the fish of the original four.
I'm giving him lettuce or some greens everyday plus 2-3 pellets for protein.
Is that enough? I have also tried giving him a treat such as tomatoes or banana just once in a month.
Thanks for all your help!

Sounds good though he could probably get some more pellets, depending on the size of it.
