General Care Discussion :: Shell Rot or Algae on Shedding Scutes?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I've noticed that my yellow-bellied slider turtle has some blackish-greenish things growing on his shell. I think shell rot is whitish, and I read somewhere that it's likely to just be algae growing on his scutes. He has been shedding his scutes for a while now, (as you can tell some parts of his shell is lighter because of this) but I just wanted to make sure he was okay.

Looks like algae. There are lots of distance between the scutes, so you need to make sure you have not been overfeeding.
