Hello all I was given my 2 res 2 years ago from a friend and they have been fine ever since. I understand I need a bigger tank for them, but as I'm a student I'm barely making ends meet. Just recently one of the turtles has small crack in the skin which a bit of blood and pink showing. I've looked online to see if this is the signs of septicemia, but am not 100% sure. Any information would be appreciated, but If I have to I will look for a vet. It started as as a white spot below the head and I looked online and others said it would go away, but it didn't.

How big is your turtle? about 5 in horizontally
How long have you had it? 2 years

What is the water temperature? 80 degrees
Did you use a thermometer? No

How much water is in there? 10 gallon tank
Are you using a water conditioner? No

Is there a basking light? No
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? Not sure. Made my zoomed just a platform
Is there a UVB light? No

What have you been trying to feed it? Only flukers buffet blend
When was the last time your turtle ate? today. They eat all the time and have had no diet issues

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 10 gallons
Is the tank near a window? No, but close to where sunlight hits it
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? Just a personal room so Kind of

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes, but have found nothing about the skin being cracked

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? Not at all. They are being as normal as ever

Most likely the other one bit that one. It's a very common spot to be targeted. You are looking at permanent separation or rehoming one.

Hey Steve, that is both assuring and sad to hear at the same time. They are practically brothers so it'll be sad to have one go. I appreciate your advice nonetheless :)

Are the both confirmed males? If so, they won't get much larger and you can consider a split tank or something. It's still a bit more of a hassle than what we'd like, but this is one those things none of us anticipate.
