Hi guys.
I recently noticed that the top layer of a small area of my turtle's shell was gone. Like it was white. I don't know much about turtles so at first I thought it was just some kind of shedding. The white area started darkening so i thought the shell was recovering? But then a brownish kind of dent started developing there.
Does anyone know what is wrong with my turtle and how to heal her? Is it serious? I'm still trying to figure out what happened in the first place.
Thanks for the help!

It's probably some infection, do to an injury or breach of shell. If it's an active infection, you will need to get some treatment for it... how long has it been like that?

Does she bask a lot? Is she with other turtles?

Has it hardened up? If this was caused by the other turtle, then you will have to figure out their separation.

I don't think it was ever soft. When it is dry, it looks the same except the brown dent is white in the center.

What does it feel like? Smooth or rough?

It might get a little worse before it starts healing. Any luck with separation?

So it should be fine if I just leave it alone?
I have temporarily separated them. Still need to figure out a permanent home for the second turtle.

Will it be fine? I don't know the extent of the injury. Sometimes the shells heal quicker when there is more damage, so something like this that is under the scutes might take longer to heal (if that makes sense).
