I have 4 years old RES, who I believe has a Respiratory Infection as result of ammonia barge leakage around our area, earlier my turtle had a swollen/puffy left eye which was treated and cured by using zoo med repti turtle eye drops for a week.
Now it has developed some more complexions mentioned below:
1. Wheezing sound 2. Opening mouth 3. Bubble coming of the mouth while inside the water 4. Nose blocked due to mucus formation
But then even after going through all these he is still actively taking food, Since Baytril isnt available at my disposable in our area; used Gentamicin shot of 0.03 ml at the front leg yesterday. soaked it in electrolyte solution for 30 mins increased the temp from 78 F to 84 F Basking time of 8-9 hrs Natural sunlight for approx 30 mins
In India treatment for exotic pets or RES and other turtle is nil/ zero, there are no qualified doctors available to treat these pets as a result we have to depend on internet forums and pages for diagnosing and treatment.
After going through all the forums and webpages when we finally decide on a medicine, comes the worse part; scarcity of medicines for exotic pets and desperate wait for medicines for months to get it imported. I had to import both zoo med repti turtle eye drops and Zoo Med ReptiSafe Conditioner from USA, but unable to get baytril for medication which is very popular in and around searches.
I have got my hands on following medication :
ENROFLOXACIN ORAL SOLUTION 10% w/v
ENROFLOXACIN INJECTION 10% w/v -100 mg
Please suggest me if the above medicine are good for oral administration and for how many days and what else can I do to save my sweet turtle.
if you dont mind me asking, where do you live, like, what city? I might find someone for you, since i know loads of people that live in & around india.
