When building a smaller tank, I had an idea that worked well for an aquarium background...

Cheap shelf / counter / cabinet peel-and stick vinyl from the local hardware store. It comes in a ton of colors including black and it sticks to the back of the glass very well. Easy to work with and very cheap. $7 for a large roll.

Interesting idea. Are you saying you stick it on the inside, or does the color look the same on the adhesive side?

I'm curious how Window Frosting Film would look, if you just wanted to give a have background.

Usually it looks glossy/sharper from the inside. So stick it on the outside of the tank, it should look more vibrant.
