Keep him warm and make sure he eats, but if it truly is RI, then he needs medication.

Thanks, we keep him warm don't worry! our house temperature is very warm! It's about 26 degrees. Good enough, I've noticed lately that he only eats half a stick or 1 (max) :( i separated him out of the tank or else my other turtle (which is healthy) will get infected (if it's RI) i used human medication on him, DO NOT WORRY! A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY: "WHAT????????????" But i used it for over 2 days and nothing happened to him, he's perfectly fine! we use that so it could clean out him inside, it's kinda an infection medicine, i dunno how to describe it but only in Chinese, sos. But, i keep him warm and everything but just won't eat much this is how u get him to eat (i've noticed): feed him half a stick one time, after 30 min, feed him another! 0_0 yeah! 0_0 and he SLEEPS A LOT!
thanks for helping....

Respiratory Infections (RI)
Information clipped from Health / Respiratory Infections

Respiratory infections (RI) are common and deadly illnesses that affect many captive turtles. It is a contagious illness that can spread to other turtles and often requires medical attention. Improper basking and water temperatures as well as exposure to drafts and breezes greatly increase the chances of contracting RI. There are varying degrees of RI, including pneumonia, and the symptoms may also differ.

The most obvious symptom that can signal RI is if a RES is listing. Listing refers to swimming in an irregular manner, such as swimming in circles, unevenly or lopsided and even swimming upside down. Listing is caused by fluid in the lungs; more specifically, if fluid exists in one lung or there is more fluid in one lung than the other. Your RES requires immediate veterinary assistance if they exhibit this symptom. They may have RI but not this symptom. The sooner that they are examined, the better the chance they can recover. They would likely be administered Baytril or another anti-infective. A vitamin injection, antibiotics and an x-ray may also be used or suggested.

There are other possible symptoms that can signal RI, especially if they occur frequently. These may include breathing difficulties, coughing, sneezing, open mouth, yawning, wheezing, lethargy, loss of appetite, mucus from the nose (runny) or mouth and bubbling at the nose and mouth. If your RES exhibits any of these symptoms, then raising temperatures, quarantine and a water change would be the immediate actions to take. Ambient air temperature and water temperature should be raised 10 degrees F. Eliminate any drafts and cold air around the tank. Pneumonia may develop which in many cases is fatal. If your RES continues to exhibit a symptom or develops more, then consult with a qualified vet immediately.

I lost one of my little ones to RI, poor guy. I hope your turtle doesn't suffer the same fate mine did.

I'm not exactly sure what you're doing but I would not recommend using human medication without guidance from a vet.

Please take what Steve said here very seriously on not utilizing human medications.

A exotic and or herp vet should be considered to do a exam so that and accurate diagnoses can be determined. I spoke to a a very close friend over the past week who was my co worker at the exotic vet clinic that we both worked at for years together and she does work there today still specializing in turtles and tortoises. With my experience in medications with treatment plans mainly with snakes and lizards, I get prescription medications for reptiles shipped directly to my door without seeing a vet but again, that is just because of my years in the clinic and expertise however this area is not recommended to those who have never dealt with such issues Depending on the age and the weight and severity of the RI, would depend on the treatment plan and medications utilized. Megan did point out that now for turtles and tortoises under a year old, that the current medication utilized is known as a eye drop called tobramycin opthalmic. Again, a vet diagnoses and consultation should be done though. You want a treatment plan advised so that a prescription such as this is ordered, you know the husbandry and care to use during the medications such a temperatures and sterilizations of the enclosures during and after. Different medications require certain temps so you will need to know this by the vet.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your turtle child during your efforts on getting her better. Keep a close I on her and the temperatures warm.
