Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

hey guys, i have 2 RES and i'm currently pondering on purchasing a 60 gallon tank with stand that I found for a steal. The thing that worries me is that the 60 gallon is narrow. do you think its fine for my 2 turtles and that they will like it? I'm thinking about filling it up atleast 3/4 and adding a floating dock and a turtle topper. Do you think it being narrow would bother the turtles? I currently have a 20 gallon and that is obviously too narrow so that brought up the concern. please help and let me know ASAP thanks in advance

How narrow is it? I had my turtle in a 55 gallon that was 13in in depth. It wasn't ideal but he appreciated the added length. At any rate the tank is 3x more volume than before I think I would be a great solution until you find something better.

That's why I like the 40 gallon breeder tanks. Nice and wide! I have to agree that any upgrade is a good thing.

Yeah this was the same problem I had, I ended up going for a 40 gallon tank, even though I may be buying another 40 when the sale comes out again.

BTW what size are your two turtles?

It's better than a 20, but they'll outgrow the 60 eventually. 10 gallons per inch of turtle is the basic rule of thumb, and your RES should eventually push 10" each.

If it's narrow, I assume it's tall. Typically, they don't need the extra depth, and prefer the room to swim around... but compared to a 20 gal, they'll be thrilled. I guess it depends on how good of a steal it is, and whether or not you can wait to afford (or find a steal on) a better option.3

Also, if you have a turtle topper, why not fill it up more and forget about the floating dock?

Good point Otis. The more water the better :-)
