My name is Sheri (Cherie) and have been proudly owned and loved by my RES "Tuga" for over 11 years. Has anyone ever heard for a Turtle being in their brumation period for 14 months? She went underground in the back yard in July 2014. She reappeared last Sunday, September 2015. She's eating and drinking and peeing and pooping and pretty much acting as her usual self.. She's not going outside with out me watching her again. She did the same thing the previous year, but reappeared 7 months later. Has anyone ever been aware of this kind of time frame of being underground?

Hi Sheri, is she going into the dirt? If so, it's not the natural way to brumate and you need to be careful with her. Most captive RES are not put into brumation, and it's usually the wild ones that do, in large bodies of water. I have not seen any information regarding brumation out of water.
