RES, I think are highly restricted in Canada. You should be able to find older RES at rescues though.

Different Countries equals different laws however the C.I.T.E.S. permits are utilized between all Nations. I do think for the most part some of these laws should have more leniency on ownership of many species. When Florida started to enforce the red ear slider laws, the FWC Officers had no mercy enforcing and I known back then that something would give under of course conditions and it did. You could legally own a RES here by simply ordering a FWC Class 3 permit. Pretty much anyone 13 years or older can get one. The FWC does not even check the applicants experience or anything for the class 3 permit (class II or I) is different though and FWC checks carefully.

Now RES are illegal to be sold to people within the State by pet stores unless they sell to someone with a permit. Therefor the pet shops online sell to those from other States only. RES must not be bred even with a permit unless the RES are selective morphs, Albinos for example. People who owned RES before the law passed, can keep them but again, can not breed nor release them into the wild. Way before the permit and restrictions occurred, FWC would give heavy financial citations and even arrest people. I am happy that the leniency occurred with the class III permit. If a RES owner wishes to give up or sell to a buyer outside the State, FWC is even offering to give for free, all shipping supplies needed to safety transport the RES to a out of State customer as well. This is a nice resolution for RES owners within Florida.
