Hi there!
I've recently adopted a pair of RES from a kid that was moving away to college. They are about 11 years old, and 5 1/2 and 6 inches shell length. They came with a 20 gallon tank, a floating turtle log, and a Fluval underwater filter.
I've moved them out of the 20 gallon tank except for feeding times. They now live in an 8 ft kiddie pool in the walkout basement in front of the sliding glass doors. When the sky stops pouring water down, I have a 3 or 4 ft hard plastic baby pool for them to lounge outside in. I've built sloped platforms with bricks and pavers to form basking areas, and added water heaters and two more Whisper filters (specs forthcoming). I've owned several reptiles before, and also briefly a fish aquarium, but these are my first turtles! After spending a few weeks going back and forth on the internet looking up information, this website has stuck with me as the best place to receive feedback from a niche community.
Turtles the first day they arrived in their tiny tank, with log.
