How long do fish last in your tank? We bought some tiger barbs and cherry barbs Thursday, and have 5 of the 8 left. Today we bought 6 neon tetras and 5 feeder rosy red minnows and he already ate a tetra. How long do you think these will last? We gave them many hiding places. We'd like to watch them for awhile, but told our daughter not to name them.

I've only had minnows in the tank and the last only a few minutes. They are endlessly pursued and have no hiding spots :)

My son had insisted on fish with his turtle. With the full expectation they wouldn't last, I got some black neon tetras.

Tobi never bothered them, though they did survive a nasty, prolonged cycle because I was clueless.

Now, nearly three years later, there are two of the original three that are happily swimming in the 55 gallon we upgraded to along with three that have been added.

That said, about two years ago, when I added regular neon tetras, they started disappearing overnight.

I wish I could have some fish stay in the tank, it would be nice to diversify the tank a bit. I buy Rosy Reds, but they typically only last a day. Some of the smarter ones hide underneath the rocks at the bottom that Brixie can't get too, but sooner or later get out for food and end up being a nice little snack.

Over the years, though, she certainly has become more skilled at catching them. When I first got her, the fish would last weeks, sometimes even months, before either dying or being eaten.

Dunno about that, but if my turtles don;t eat the feeder fish, the fish act as the maid of the tank:oops: and eat the food that my turtles left over.
