Probably fly larvae. Is the turtle kept outside? If you do think your turtle has worms, try to capture a worm next time. If it is a parasite, a vet will need to identify it for the appropriate treatment.

she is indoors. it seemed a teeny bit big for fly larvae.

Net it or suck it up with some hose.

I have tiny red worms in my pads in my filter... Bright red ones.. Anyone else ever have that? His water is clear and I have charcoal and a bag of that white stuff ( I forget what it's called but it takes the odors out) I clean out his hoses often as well as his filter Rena XP at least once a month.

I think I hosed all the worms out with my last filter change, but should I be concerned or are they kinda common and harmless".

Whatever they are is definitely disgusting and made me feel like a bad turtle owner for having them in there to begin with.

If its an indoor tank, you can probably try to disinfect your filter. But you need to figure out the source of them or they will come back.

What would be safe to use as a disinfectant? I have no idea the source and not sure what to even call them to try and get some information on them. I was hoping someone else has experienced these and could maybe enlighten me a little on what causes them.

I hate to have to drain the whole 75 gallon tank if I don't have to.

I did soak the pads in some bleach water for a few minutes and then rinsed them really well before putting them back in. Hopefully that worked and will know more in a week when I check the pads again.

They are probably midge fly larvae aka bloodworms. They are probably coming into your house and laying their eggs in the tank. You can cover the tank with a screen or increase surface movement so the flies can't land on the surface.

Fish keepers will pay good money for those live worms to feed to their fish :) So you might want to leave them or bottle them up for the local fish keeper group.

Maybe I will just throw a couple fish in there to eat them.. I don't see any inside the tank though, just the filter.
