Hi, i have my turtle for about a year now. He's a small one, I think, but I'm not sure how old he is. A few days ago, I noticed him smelling and even trying to eat his own stool! What's wrong with him?
Turtles will do that...it's just their nature. Make sure you have plenty of leaft greens in the tnk for him to eat. For a complete feeding list, check the top of this section for the recommended feeding list sticky.
Size doesn't always determine age. Turtles are like people, and I know I am shorter than most...it doesn't make me any younger. Also, most people on this site are posting because they also have an RES hince www.redearslider.com Those who are posting otherwise will state that when posting. If it isn't mentioned...it's an RES.

shellie, this is not true. Size does not indicate age. Some turtles can be 4" at a year and others will be larger. There are many factors involved in the growth of a turtle. An incorrect diet, an improper/inadequate habitat and genetics just to name a few. Perhaps as its been suggested you should do some research on RES so that you are a well informed turtle owner.
In your numerous posts introducing yourself you've said that you are new to owning a turtle, is that correct??
