krush2.jpg
How big is your turtle? Krush is about 1 1/2 inches and Squirt is barely over 1 inch.
How long have you had it? A few months.

What is the water temperature? 75 degrees on the basking side, 70 on the other.
Did you use a thermometer? Yes.
Are you using a water heater? Yes.
How much water is in there? It is filled. The tank is a 75 gallon, long. They will be moved to a 120 gallon shortly, when the stand is completed(building it.)
Are you using a water conditioner? Yes, for removing chloride.
Are you using any filtration? Yes, 200 gallon filter by Cascade.

What is the basking temperature? 90-93. It fluctuates, depending on the time of day.
Is there a basking light? Yes.
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes, two.
What kind is it or what is it made out of? One is made out of wood, the other just one of the ones from the petstore, the floating dock.
Is there a UVB light? Yes, uva & uvb.

What have you been trying to feed it? They eat a mixed diet. A worm or two every other week, pellets, green vegetables, sometimes crickets. I dust their live food in vitamin.
When was the last time your turtle ate? An hour or so ago.

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 75 gallon.
Is the tank near a window? Yes.
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? Not really. It is in my bedroom. They see me an awful lot but don't mind me.

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes.
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes.

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? They were rubbing their eyes - I took them to the vet and they were cleared of illness, dry docked them to be safe, but no improvement was made until I switched to a much pricier bulb for heat. Now they are fine.. o_O I don't know what's up with that.

Anyways, I come to you. I will also leave pictures for you to view. My main question is about their shells -- what's up with the peeling? Their filter is awesome, the water is awesome and I know so because I have testing kits, the lighting is not too close and not too far, I'm a little dumbfounded. I thought their skin only shed, not their shells? It goes away, comes back, goes away, etc. If it helps any, they are rescue hatchlings, I took them(confrontationally) from someone who was going to dump them in the canal(seriously no chance of survival). Their set up was CRAP and they were in a 10 gallon tank with the murkiest, dirtiest, stinkiest water ever. When I first got them, their shells were doing a lot more peeling than what they are now. I am scared that they have shell rot. I don't know anything about shell rot, I've never dealt with it before. If that is what's going on, what can I do for them? The vet didn't even address their shells but it seems sketchy to me. I don't see anyone else's turtle shell photos looking like my babies. Educate me, please.

Second question, which I will remove and move if neccessary, what in the world are they? I thought they were red eared sliders but they don't have red ears, just a small tiny of orange. The lines on their skin is like a highlighter yellow/green color. Their eyes are very very bright green. The smaller ones shell is very dark in color, the lines on their scutes are a faded yellow. The larger one's shell is pure green, whereas the smallers is like a brownish weird coloured green. If you can help, let me know!

Edit: can't add more than 3 files??

It is normal for shell peel. Let it come off natrually.

OK, thanks. I don't intend on messing with it. I am adding more pictures in this reply because I couldn't figure out how to add more than 3 in the OP.

Really!! Thank you very much. I've never had a yellow belly, my family had a red eared slider, mississippi map, and western painted when I was growing up but never a yellow bellied slider. I'll do some research regarding their species just incase their care differs in any way. That's awesome though, thanks a lot! :)

The one in the first set of pictures is not a yellow belly, its a cumberland slider. The one with the extra scutes on the carapace could be a yellow belly. It does have a connecting pre-frontal arrow on the nose, but a photo with the head out can confirm that. Otherwise, they look like healthy happy turtles.

Right behind the eye, yellow bellied sliders have an 'S' shaped post orbital marking that connects the orbit stripe with the lower mandible stripe. Cumberlands look more like RES but typically with yellow or gray ears.

Whoa, spot on with the Cumberland Slider. I just looked up pictures and there is absolutely no difference or doubt in my mind. I will try and get more pictures of them and especially a few of the little guy, and I will post them in the appropriate forum. Be on the look out, I'd love to know what he is. lol Thanks so much
