Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I wonder if the fish food is bad for the turtle?
I was thinking of giving that "FD Tubiflex" 1 time a week.
I read in a forum of fish, where a guy uses to feed large fish, called "Koi Vibrance" to feed their turtles. It was a mixture of 50% turtle food, and 50% of Koi Vibrance.

I use Wheat Germ Koi Food for extra vitamins (Sheldon had a fungus) but my vet cautioned against too much as of course it is not actually menat for turtles. I bought Hikari brand though.

I use the Hikari Wheat Germ for Goldfish to help with shedding.

^^That helps with shedding? I did not know that. I have like a ten pound bag which I have no idea what to do with (lets face it, Sheldon can be a piggy but...lol). Can you get smaller ones?

mine is 150 grams. I haven't seen any progress so far, but the wheat germ is only 20% of her whole diet. try blueberries and apple skins too, I read that it's also good for shedding. as for the koi pellets, since it's pinhead size, i feed 4-6 everyday.

Ah I see. Isn't fruit kind of tricky? (I've heard horror stories about poop trouble)

yep, that's why you should feed the turtle a fruit only once a month. I've read that the turtle's system cannot easily handle sweets, since a wild turtle do not have access to it. as long as it's given moderately, it should be fine.

I think small amounts should be fine, but you need to consider the type you're offering. Wheat-Germ koi pellets are considered to be good.

I've been wondering lately how to get wheat germ into their diets.

I feed 2 blue berries a week usually before i do my protein, and i have NEVER seen an issue with there poop.

It is all about moderation.

Some fish food can be synonymous with turtle food. We use freeze dried brine shrimp and the turtles LOVE them. They come in little 1cm cubes, and they break away into little shrimp in water - I haven't tried it with Matilda yet (I have her on a strict calcium diet because she's still in rescue mode), but Daryl thinks they are the bees knees.

When we were hosting feeder guppies in Daryl's tank, we would feed them fish flakes while he was eating his meal outside the tank in a separate bowl. When we'd put him back in, the little bugger would scope his entire tank for the fish flakes for the guppies. He's a champ.

Here's what we have:

I wouldn't be concerned about using fish food. I wouldn't use it all the time, but they have a lot of the same ingredients as the turtle food. Once in a while is probably ok.

Yep, my turtle eats the fish food when I feed the fish. Its not a large amount maybe a peice or two before the fish can eat it. Most the time he doesn't even bother with their food tho.

My gold fish actually eat the Turtles food. Its hilarious watching a gold fish try to eat a freeze dried meal worm..

I am moving the fish into a separate tank soon :-(
