Feeding and Nutrition :: painted turtle

My eastern painted zim is new to me he is a rescue I've had him about 5 or 6 days.
the home he was in was very poor before he came to me. He was fed nothing but shrimp,crickets,and meal worms.
He is 4yrs old so I know it is going to take alot of time and persistence to get him eating veggies. My issue is he won't eat anything. No veggies no pellets and I just gave a cricket today cause us hasn't eaten since I got him and he didn't touch it.
He basks CONSTANTLY! I really even see him swimming.

What can I do to make him eat in worried. Keep in mind he is a bit over weight according to my vet so he may be able to go longer with out food but nothing is working not tuna juice or j-ello shots.

Please help I've tried 2 types of pellets and 4 kinds of veggies

How big is he? What's his set up like? Maybe see if he's interested in what he was fed before, but in a much smaller quantity.

He is just under 6 inches.
He is in a 45 gallon tank filled just below the edge(temporary for the time being)
He has a 60 watt basking bulb and a 5.0 repti glow 16watt uvb bulb. He has a basking dock large enough to fit him and a hatchling on it if they were both completely stretched out. The lights are roughly 4to5 inches above the dock. The filter is made for fish however it is designed for a 75+gallon tank. It is a dual filter with both carbon and bio media filters. the tank is bare bottom.
Other then the dock and the bottom of the filter there is noting in the tank. I don't currently have thermometers but based on the room temp and feeling his temps to my slider tank I'd say the basking is about 87-89degs and the water is anywhere between 73 and 76. He did finally eat the cricket which means he is going in the water when I'm not home but so basicly he's eaten 1 cricket in about a wk. I'm really worried tho he already has a slightly deformed shell and I'm sacred to keep feeding him the protein.
Note*the lights are both turn on at 7am and turned off anywhere between 10pm and 12am. I put food in the tank at 8am everyday and leave it until i go to turn his lights out then i scoop ot out.

Does he still bask when the lights are off? If he's full grown, his shell probably won't get much worse with a high protein diet though it's still not the best thing for him. Are these live crickets or the canned version?

He's full grown. Idk if he still basks when the lights are off I turn them off before I go to bed. And they are freeze dried crickets. Its clunkers mixed freeze dried treats....im not really a clunkers food fan they came with him when I picked him up

Is he in the water before you turn on the lights?

No he is not a why basker at all he lets me pet him or pick him up or even take very close up photos while he's basking. He doesn't dive off when I came near him. I have seen him in the wayr a few times tho so I know he isn't up the constantly and he managed to knock the bottom tube off the filter so he must be going in the water. I think he is just the opposite of my sliders and is more why in the water then when basking. I also found it is more the mealworms he enjoys then anything else. They are freeze dried as well.

I've read in several places tho that painteds are sun worshippers so I'm not super surprised by him basking alot

Sounds like it's just his personality then
