I like to use a simple 4 sided box that sits on top of my aquarium, this enables me to fill the aquarium completely and use either a floating dock or cork bark. These are some pictures of my build!

Image

I got 2 pieces of pine, 3/4" thick, ten feet long, ten inches wide.

Image

Cut the lengths I needed to fit the to of the aquarium perfectly, then drew out the openings for filter tubes, wires, center brace etc.

Image

My fancy techniques... Lol. Built it on my own though!

Image

All my pieces are cut, now hopefully they fit together!

Image

Get the corner brackets screwed into place.

Image

And everything fell into place!

Special thanks to Rufus, my support team.

Final product. Eventually I will stain or paint, and add acrylic to the openings.

S heldonis loving the swimming space! Thanks everyone for all the advice on my upgrade process :)

very nice! i really like the driftwood in your tank also that looks awesome. I think some stain would be a good finishing touch so you dont cover up that beautiful wood grain.

*edit: quick question, did you build it to sit just inside the tank on the lip that the lid would normally sit on, or does it sit right on top?

Looks great! You got that done super quick. It's hard to tell from the pic on my iPhone but it looks like both the atba and stand are pine. If you have some scrap you could match the stain to the base cabinet. Thatd look sweet.

It fits just inside the lip on top of the aquarium. This is the third one I have built, so it went pretty smoothly.

I definitely think I am going to stain it. But after busting that thing out in one afternoon, I felt taking a break! I am just getting a kick out of watching Sheldon explore his tank! And my pleco looks tiny in there! Lol
