Feeding and Nutrition :: Pellets

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi, my RES shell is about 2 inches long. I am not sure how old he is because we got him from someone else. The lady at the pet store gave me Tetra ReptoMin "Baby" Pellets. Would these be suitable?

Also, do any of you have an estimate for how old he is, because I don't know if I should feed him every day or not. I have to confess that I have given in to the begging a lot because I'm afraid he is going to starve, I know that is not true. I have been feeding him pellets twice a day (I know...I just read the nutrition section and I'm going to stop) I also give him blood worms sometimes that I purchased from the pet store. Are these okay?

You only need to feed him every other day about the size of his head. And Yes blood worms are ok as a treat but not more than once a week. I would finish out the baby pellets an switch to the regular ones.

As for the age ther is no way to really tell unles you know when he hatched. I have a 2 year old turtle that is little over two inches and I have a 2 year old that is over 5 inches. Just depends on how fast they grow.

You can use the head-size measurement, but only use half everyday. Have you tried veggies yet?

I haven't yet. I'm a little confused on that aspect. So pellets every other day, but veggies every day? And how much of a variety of vegetables does there need to be?

You can give both everyday, though the amount of pellets should be pretty small.

I want my turtle to be healthy so bad, but this stuff is confusing me and stressing me out :/ I have a hard time trusting my instincts or anything with pet care so I get really confused with all the stuff that says "recommended" and "you can". Is there any places that have some kind of straight up, feeding guide, day by day?

Like would it be okay to give him carrot shreds every other day and pellets every other day?

It depends on the amount. As for being worried about how much, just look over what other people are using for an idea: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11684

It was around June 19th when we discovered hatchlings around my mother's yard at her house and probably a week or two after that I saved the one I have from the pool filter and its already just under 2 inches. I had been feeding it and the other hatchling I have twice a day but after seeing the rapid growth I cut back to 2x their head once a day to see how that goes. Already the begging has started. lol Probably like "What gives??"

Sweet I put some red leaf lettuce in the tank cause they were begging and they kinda looked at it like "What the heck", just went back out there and they're chomping away at it. I couldn't get them to eat it before when I'd offer it with pellets. Hah!!! Got those bad babies to eat their veggies!
