hello all,

today i bought a new acrylic tank, advertised as being 120 gallon, but with the measurements based on this site's calculator as being a 100, and i'm wondering if i can utilize my existing stand, purchased along with a 55 gallon glass tank which didn't survive a recent move.

the new tank is 60 x 18 x 20 and overhangs the old stand by one inch on the front and back and 3 inches on each side. once filled with water (the tank calculator tells me the new tank will weigh 776 as opposed to the old one's 420) am i asking for trouble? its a basic varnished pine stand, not metal or hardwood or anything, and i'm looking for some guidance.

thanks in advance.

Nope...it ain't gonna work.

You don't want any parts of a tank hanging over the side. The edges of tanks are what holds the weight.

Plus, you don't want to combine to smaller stands to make a big stand because a 120 gallon tank stand actually is built to hold much more weight.

thanks for the clarification, i didnt know if having an acrylic tank was any different in this case, based on its type of construction.

Well the only difference is that Acrylics are lighter, but once they're filed with water that doesn't really matter much.
