Ive been hand feeding my turtle for an while now but yesterday i had the bad idea to give her an small worm while its in the palm of my hand. She took a big bite in the worm but at the same time a part of my palm. What happened is that she didnt want to let the worm go as well of my palm,it lasted a good 5 minutes of pain,i tryed to pull her(bad idea),i tryed to shower her under water(nothing happend),i tryed to flip her ,to put her back in the water but there was nothing to let loose her bite.

I was wondering if anyone had an tips to make them loose there bites.

Thank you.

There's no way to stop them, you need to change the way you hold her food to keep biting to a minimum.

every once in a while, shelldon will bite to high up when i feed him, miss the food, and get my finger. i usually move him (while hes still biting) to the more empty and deep part the tank and slowly rise my hand until he lets go.

When I sometimes offer food to my turtles, some of them will try to bypass the food and go for my finger, mainly, I assume, because they think it's a bigger pieces of food. I'll have to pull back a bit with the food between my fingers so they wind up only with the food.

If a turtle grabs a finger, for example, and and won't let go, you might try gently pushing your caught finger into the mouth a little. The turtle should react by breaking his hold.

You cant stop them from biting you. Its not really her fault at it is yours, because she cant really see were she is biting, its as if she is closing her eyes when there taking a bite for food, sometimes they get it, sometimes they dont. You can use simple things to still feed by hand, and it wont harm you at all. What I've been using to feed by hand, is a tooth pick, they come in small boxes, and are very cheap. Once you use one, you can either throw it away or keep using it will its time to throw it away.

As far as if a turtle bites you as if your food, they most likely will let go and figure out why they couldnt bring it down, the only way I've seen a turtle bite and wont let go, is when it feels harmed, so it'll usually go in its shell, then when the object comes to close, it'll bite and hold on till they decide to let go, pulling will do nothing but hurt worse. I've been accidentally bitten by my turtle, and it never bleeds, but if the turtle means to bite me, I'm sure my finger will bleed.
Thanks,
Richard

That doesnt work, its just stupid. If the turtle wont let go, then it wont let go, you just gotta be carefull. Most of the time, they bite for food, if you annoying them alot, then they may bite for real, which will hurt alot worse.

Not really. I've seen and heard of people feeding by hand and they still get bitten from time to time. Infact, along time ago, when I started to feed my turtle by hand, she was more into what my finger was doing, rather than the food, then she started to notice the food. But regardless of what you do, they will bite you sooner or later, and when they do, dont be a bad pet owner and throw/put it under the water where it can drown.
Thanks,
Richard

dude, turtles dont drown under water, thats were they live, however the shock of a running faucet should make your turtle open his mouth and go into his shell, afterwhich you can take him back to his tank.

yea, but
A, you get chlorinated water on him that he could swallow witch, even though could lead to nothing, might lead to something
B, you are washing a turtle down a bathtub... if he releases he will fall onto the surface of a hard tub.
C, it must be just plain irritating to have cold water all the sudden splash your face, not to mention the pressure of most faucets for baths

and also "run to the bathtub" he could let go while your running there. then he has a momentum-guided fall to the ground

lol, this is a stupid argument, but for the fun:
A, your turtle has to swallow ALOT of chlorinated water before it does something, as the amount of chlorine in tap water is minute (very little0
B, hopefully your holding your turtle near the bottom, so it will be a tiny drop, and youd be surprised how hard the shell is.
C, orrect it wont harm him it'll annoy him and if it does he'll put his head in his shell, and stop biting you. If your bath has strong pressure, put it on low, or go to your sink.
I ddont know what the problem is
