Feeding and Nutrition :: Fish food color supplement?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I was wondering if it would be alright to try and feed my turtles some color enhancing fish food, to enhance their color? Assuming it wouldn't hurt them in any way.

It has a strong smell, and from the few labels I read seems to be similar in content to actual turtle food, even though some have a higher protein content.

I don't think it will have any effect on your turtle's color.

I was wondering. Depends on how it works. Nothing immediate of course, but possible brighter colors after they shed?

I haven't heard of making them any more vibrant. The shell will look good after any shed :)

That's true I'll think they're gorgeous no matter what. I vaguly remembered that some foods were reccomemded to 'ehnance color' and was wondering about the fish food.

I always look in the pet section when I get groceries, and it is quite lacking in turtle treats. I always want to spoil them

The only one I've regularly heard of is orange "lips" from lots of carrots.

My res both had a bright orange colour in their plastrons from eating carrots regularly. They eventually faded as I stopped offering carrots so often.

yeah carrots are very potent. i recall a story about my mom when she was younger eating them every day and started having an orange tint in her skin like an artificial tan.

Foods high in beta carotene (carrots, squash, dandelions, pumpkin, sweet potato, etc.) are said by some to be able to enhance coloration somewhat, but will not make a RES green again.

Oh i know they'll never be green again. Speedy is already turning yellow, Shiloh is still green- also smaller. Hmm. I should feed Shiloh more.
