My husband and I wondered if we could put a snail in our RES's tank? If so, what kind or will he try to eat whatever we put in it?

I might have to try that! Can you get apple snails at the pet store or do they have to be specially ordered?

not sure, im in New Zealand and got them on online auction. depends on where you are i imagine.
my largest are the size of a golfball and eat any rubbish left behind by the turtles, they are graceful and beautiful. the small ones have been eaten.
