I read that crushed egg shells are a good source of calcium...Could we feed them to RES?

GROUND egg shells could probably be used, though they would need to be incorporated into a gel or something, otherwise they will just dissolve in the water.

Cuttlebone, which is found in the bird section of the pet store, is easier and already ready for consumption.

Turtles won't always just eat the cuttlebone. Some people attach a clip to the side of their tank and hang a whole cuttlebone from it for them to munch on and replace it as it is eaten or becomes too water-logged. Others (like me) drop in pieces about head-sized a few times a week because my turtle at least eats anything and everything that goes in that tank! Female turtles can go through a cuttlebone every day or two while they are producing eggs, whereas males and small, young turtles may take weeks to go through one. They will eat it when their bodies are craving calcium.

Btw, you did remember to remove the hard backing that is on the cuttlebone, right? Otherwise, your turtle won't be able to eat it!

Whenever I'm boiling eggs for myself, I peel them and give the shells to my RES (I dont crush it tho), in addition to always having cuttlebone available.

Jenaero I did that too the other day....I boiled an egg and crushed a few pieces and placed them on his dock...They were gone after a while so I'm guessing he ate them...And gremlin YES, what I do is I take a knife and slice a piece of the front end obviously and toss it in the water... I throw the hard backing away....
