You guys do notice that not every turtle has the same shell design and colour right? I have 3 females and a male. 2 of the females have these golden black striped carapce while the third one has a completely black carapace with a yellow outline. My male, 13 years of age, still has a bright green carapace. They are kept outdoors all year round in a blazing tropical climate. I agree with Marisa. Sliders kept indoors do become melanistic. Melanism is caused by excessive production of melanin. Yes basking in the sun speeds up this process, and all turtles indoor or outdoor will get melanistic. Princess3000 take a couple of pictures for us. The shell, head, claws, tail and both the RES beside each other. Did the fighting occur outdoors? The reason is probably because you have failed to provide enough space in their tank.
Red eared sliders are for life, not just the weekends.
