Am I supposed to leave the food dish in the tank like on the basking area or do I just let it float around in the water? I thought that I read somewhere that they need to be fed outside the tank.... true? If so, when I take her out to feed, how long do I give her to eat before putting her back in the tank? I am so new at this and really need some clarification on how to feed, I got the waht to feed part down fine, just need some help on the other issue. Thanks!!!

I just put Sassamo's food in the water, no water dish needed. The pellets float and she gobbles them down fast enough too keep the water clean.
If your turtle is making a mess eating in the tank then, if you want, you can make a feeding tank, it needs enough water too cover your turtle so they can swallow.

I just leave the pellets floating in front of my turtles and in 2 seconds the pellets gone!

If you don't want your water get dirty, mess and smelly then you can feed your turtle in separate tank.

RES need water to swallow, so it's best to just let it float in the water.

Some people feed their RES in a separate feeding tank, which helps keep the water cleaner for longer. A feeding tank should still have water in it (though I'm not sure deep most people use). They then leave the turtle in the feeding tank for about 15 minutes, since most RES poop shortly after eating.

You can feed them in the sink, I do that sometimes with the fruits because they make such a mess. I usually just put enough water in there to cover the shell. Mostly my guys are fed in their tanks. Sisqo, my RES will eat any where, but Orlando my YBS doesn't like to eat anywhere but in his tank, it freaks him out.
