I just picked up a new 100 gal tank today. i am upgrading fromm my old 55 gall tank. i have a question about water heaters. i havea stealth heater right now that good up to 55 gall of water. should i just buy another stealth heater good for 55 gall to have a total of 100 worth of heat. or get one thats big enought for 100 gallons if so i need suggestions

I would buy another stealth heater good for 55 gallon. post some pictures of your 100 gallon when finished!

Nice upgrade!
For the heater, you could really go either way. If there is not much price difference between the one for 55 gal, and the one for 100 gal, I would go for the higher wattage one, especially if it is cold where you are in the winter. That way you could have extra warmth in the winter, if you needed it.
Although, on the flip side, if it doesn't get too cool, then you might want to go for the two 55 gallon ones, since the heat would disperse better from two than just one.

Two smaller heaters will be ok. However, the cost of a larger one will only cost you a little more and you don't have to put with the extra plug and making room for it. m.

Honestly it depends where you live, and how well insulated your house is. I have heaters in my tank, but they are literally never on (I know this because I log temp data on my computer). My guess is the lights and the pump keep things warm.

hum thanks guys i will keep a look out for a good 100gal heater. any suggestions stealth only has one good up to 75 i believe.

Fluval E Series heaters look pretty nice. they have one rated for 100 gallons.
