Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

Hi, I have some curious about the lights. UVA n UVB.

Correct me if I'm wrong..

UVA - Incandescent light bulb - 75watts

UVB - Compact Fluorescent - 26 watts

(I've search and read a lot the info from the site as well in forum)

Now my problem is, nearby petstore don't sell (or maybe they don't know) about the light dat I want. So I went to hardware shop (alternative way) here I found for the UVA only have at 60watts whereby for UVB at 10watts.

Is it will make any difference if the watt is not same as suggested? so what watt can I use?

Just want to share, I've been searching for the lights and heater like a week from petstore to other petstore as well as the place where I get my turtles. Most of petstore people said, "turtles no need to have lights, for what?, they can live without lights, they are not fish or organic plant"

When I'm asking about heater, "why turtles need heater?, they are not fish."

When I'm explained to them why I need those lights, heater, they said I'm stupid because reading from the internet and just waste of money and they ignore me when they can't give what I want.

I just want to provide best and good condition for my turtles. But then what I got is I'm just a stupid girl who try to live with my turtles. Dat hurts me so much. I hate petstore people in KL so much~!

Ha!! what a bunch of idiots.

It has to be the suggested wattage otherwise the UVB will be too weak. Can you order online and have the bulb shipped to you? do any websites offer to ship to Malaysia?

that's exactly why i never ask the employees at pet stores for help because they don't know about proper turtle care. i'd say your best bet is to stick to this site for hep and advice :)

Great to know Azfar. Be sure you get the right voltage/wattage, and good luck!

From my reading and searching info in this forum, 60watt also can be used.I found the UVA bulb sells at hardware shop for 60watt. Is it ok?

Emm just wondering, actually what the color of UVB light produce? Bright white or the yellow one?

Sorry for asking again and again cuz I still confuse to get the UVB light~~

As-far- I am not trying to make things more difficult for you, but you will need to make sure that the uvb that you get is not too strong as too much hurts their eyes. I use a 26 watt with a .50 uvb output. -- Good Luck!!

Compact flourescent UVB lamps usually have a bright white light. Make sure you get one that's meant for reptiles, not just a regular flourescent light for household use. If you can order from the site that Steve suggested, that would be the best, they are very reputable. As for the heat (UVA) light, the wattage isn't as important as the temperature on the basking area. The only purpose for this bulb is to provide heat, so you can use whatever wattage gets you to around 10 degrees warmer than the water.

Don't worry about those jerks at the pet store, i know it's aggravating when you know what you're talking about and they still treat you like an idiot. You're doing your research and working on giving your turts the best possible setup, and that's all that matters :D
