Go look on TurtleTails.com and look at his set ups. They are really great. I tried to create a little mini-ecosystem for my three toed also. Today I went out a gathered up some dried leaves and put them in my blender to make some leaf litter. I mixed this up with some new soil, and added it into the virvarium.

RunninWideOpen.....do you have any pictures of the mini-ecosystem that you made? I would love to see them.

Are all those mealworms for the one turtle Terryo? I only give mine about 3 at a time.....hope I'm not starving them?

I keep a lid over the baby 3-toeds' setup to keep the humidity up, but not over the Ornates'

Alright, I don't know if this is suppose to happen or not, but I've notice some small fruitflies or something running around in the. I've also noticed more little flies flying around my monitor at night. I squish em everytime, but theres always 1 or 2 every night. Can I put something in there that will eat those little guy but not harm the hatchlings?

ah, the innfamous gnat problem. i had problems with that my first time through...

I was told that it's usually caused by left over food, dead worms etc, that get left in the soil. Here's my thread on the gnat problem http://www.turtleforum.com/forum/upload/index.php?showtopic=78054&hl=gnats+everywhere I'm going to try "Knock out Gnats" if I have a problem again.

Ah thanks! Guess I'll remove the strawberry plant thats dieing. I feed them worms in a water dish every night. So I'm not worried about the worms escaping the food dish and getting into the substrate.

That's a pretty cool idea Steve. Creativity at it's best!

It would help keep them from flying throughout the house when the gnat problem starts to get really bad. My gnats tend to stay down inside the enclosure all the time. The only time they came out of the enclusure was when there were a ton of them.

The only way you can really eliminate the gnat problem altogether is to kill the larvae that are in the soil......or replace all the soil and do a good cleaning.

Also would it be okay to treat them to feeder guppies once in a while?

I've never given fish to my boxies. No reason really. Make sure the guppies are dead first so they're not flip floppin all over the place.

They won't be flipping around since I still feed the boxies while they soak. =)
