Feeding and Nutrition :: Feed carrot moderately?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

What does moderately mean? I just read the nutrition information, and carrot is listed under moderate. Limu loves carrot now and has been eating it daily (for the past 3 days), but in very small quantities. How many times a week/month should I feed it carrot?

I agree with the above UNLESS you have a RES that has NO interest in greens! Tobi girl eats NO greens but will eat some carrots, so I buy the bags of sliced carrots and give her only a couple small slices daily. (But she is 10" long...) So I suppose it would depend on your turtles' size...lol :)

Yes, when turtles are young they dont really have the interest in veggies
But you have to put that interest in
and hook them on the veggies

I my self is having problems getting my guy on veggies
But im trying
because when he grows up itll be a major part of his diet

Moderate means "once in a while" as in, "not every day." :)

For example, ("moderately" used in a sentence): eating McDonald's food is fine if a person only does it "moderately."

I give my RES about 4-6 thin carrot peels weekly to a week and a half. It depends on what else I've got for him to eat.

I was feeding carrot about twice a month for a while. Personally, I like the coloring it added to the plastron

Now I've cut carrots down to once every two months or so. The color has faded some :-(

I usually get Mr. Turtle carrots about once a month, but I give them to him (just a small amount) daily for about 5 days or so. With him being a larger turtle he consumes quite a bit of veggies a day, so the small amount he gets is maybe 1/3 to 1/4 of his daily amount those days.

I do it that way just so I don't have left over carrot that goes bad just by giving it to him once a week.

I feed my RES carrots once a week. Every Monday I cut up a piece a little larger than the size of their combined heads into tiny pieces and they go wild for it. It's one of their favorites.
