Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

ok, i'm a new turtle mom. i've had my baby RES for about a week now. he's only 2 inches & i have no idea how old he is. i've read through this site on what to feed & what not to feed him & i've even looked through all of the posts. & i'm confused.

right now, he's eating reptomin baby. i feed him once in the morning & once in the evening about 4 pellets each feeding. (in reading, i think i need to only feed him once a day)

i have a uva light set up, no uvb yet, but i've been coating his pellets with the rep-cal phosphorus free calcium w/vitamin d3 supplement until i can get a uvb light.

i've heard of the rule to feed him what would fit into his head if it were hollow, but i'm not entirely sure how big his head is.

i just want to make sure that i'm not over feeding him. i plan on getting him some veggies soon as well.

the instructions said several twice a day, but in reading, twice a day seemed like too much. so i'll start 4 pellets once a day, 5 seems like it's too much for him, he usually spits it out.

thank you!

i don't have him on veggies yet, but i have a list that i got off of the website of things that he should be fed. so i'm going to go to the store & get some veggies to start giving him.

one other thing, with the vitamin d3 supplement hold him over until i can get him another light? he's currently on a uva right now. & he gets the supplement at mealtime.

Here's a thread from someone else who took a picture of the turtle with a pellet and it was real easy to see what the right amount would be. It was cute too!

Does that help?
