Hello Everyone, I have been planning the construction of a DIY canister filter project. I was going for relatively cheep but most effective trying to go under 50-55$. I think i achieved well under that but for you if you chose to build might depend the the pump you choose and the length of the filter.

So here is what im trying to do. For my tank im using 4 inch wide PVC by 2 feet tall having 60% of it bio media 25% chemical media and 15% mechanical media. here is a picture

what do you think i should use for a pump?
here are my ideas

any ideas on how to aerate the bio media with out getting bubbles in the pump?
any other suggestions on the filter itself?

Coll project, but I'm not sure if it will be worth the effort seeing that you can get a huge SunSun / Perfect ebay canister filter for a little more.

I agree with devilduck. Plus you'd get all the hoses and connections with it.

The good thing about this is the canister alone cost 20- 25 depending on size. the thing that makes it 55$ is the pump and you can get one for 35 that pumps 650 gpm. so this filter can extend to what ever size you need for your tank but with store bought you have to buy a filter that cost 55+ each time you upgrade. With this an upgrade can cost you 15$. Case rested..... lmao
